  3. According to legend, the temple is associated with the sage Vyaghrapada. The name "Sirupuliyur" means "small tiger town," which is linked to Vyaghrapada, a sage who had the feet of a tiger (Vyaghra). 
  4. He worshipped Lord Shiva here, seeking the divine blessings of the deity. Lord Shiva, pleased with the sage's devotion, appeared to him and blessed him.
