  2. This Sri Narayana Perumal Temple is one of the 11 temples of Thirunangur, under the Administrative control of – Thirunangur Ezhu Koil adheenam.


PURANIC SIGNIFICANCE:



  1. As per the legend the 11 temples of Thirunangur are closely associated with each other. 
  2. After Datchayini jumped in to Dakshan’s Yaga kunda. 
  3. Shiva took the body of Dhatchayani and danced furiously. 
  4. Each time the jada mudi touches the ground, 11 forms of Shiva appear. 
  5. The Celestial deities afraid that if Shiva’s dance continued, the entire creation would cease. 
  6. So they requested Maha Vishnu to stop Shiva’s dance. 
  7. On Seeing Maha Vishnu, Shiva became normal and requested Maha Vishnu to appear in 11 different forms at this place, Thirunangur.  
  8. Maha Vishnu is also called as “Thamarai kannudiyabiran - the one with lotus eyes”.
  9. The sun rays fall on moolavar through the rajagopuram tala dwaras. 
  10. It is believed that the Sun God worships Narayanan of this temple, every day.
  11. As per the epic Mahabharatha, the snake King Parikshit ruled this place called Nagapuri, which has got corrupted to the present name of Nangur.
  12. Narayana Perumal taught the Thirumanthiaram at Badrikashram(Badrinath).
  13. It is believed that Perumal is also here. 
  14. Hence this Place is considered as equivalent to Badrinath.

Do's and Don'ts

  1. Do pray your Ishta Devata before pilgrimage to the Temple.
  2. Do contact Temple Devasthanam information centre for enquiry, temple information and for Pooja details etc.
  3. Do reserve your travel and accommodation at Temple well in advance.
  4. Take a bath and wear clean clothes before you enter the temple.
  5. Do concentrate on God and Goddess inside the temple.
  6. Do observe ancient customs and traditions while in the Temple.
  7. Do respect religious sentiments at Temple.
  8. Do deposit your offerings in the hundi only


  1. Do not come to Temple for any purpose other than worshipping God and Goddess.
  2. Do not smoke at Temple.
  3. Do not consume alcoholic drinks at Temple.
  4. Do not eat non-vegetarian food in the Kshetram.
  5. Do not approach mediators for quick Darshan. It may cause inconvenience to others.
  6. Do not carry any weapon inside the temple.
  7. Do not wear any head guards like helmets, caps, turbans and hats inside the temple premises.
  8. Do not take much time while performing Sparsa Darshanam to God in Garbhagriha.
  9. Do not encourage beggars at Temple.
  10. Do not spit or create nuisance in the premises of the temple.

  1. Men are encouraged to wear a traditional dhoti (also known as veshti) when visiting the temple. 
  2. Women are encouraged to wear a saree, which is the traditional and most respectful attire for temple visits.
