ORIGIN/HISTORY:


  1. Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple is dedicated to God Vishnu located at Sevilimedu village in Kanchipuram District of Tamilnadu. It is located at a distance of 2 Kms from Kanchipuram Town.
  2. It is said that the maid servant (Sevilithai) of Pallava Queen stayed in this village and hence it is known as “Sevilimedu ''. Another reason cited by some is that “Sevalli Flowers” were in the ponds in the village which was the reason for the name of the village.
  3. There is epigraphic evidence to show that Raja Parameswara Pallava performed Samprokshanam for this temple. The age of the temple is said to be around 1500 years old.
  4. The Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple in Sevilimedu boasts a rich history, believed to be around 1200-1500 years old.


Pallava Dynasty (8th Century):


  1. Evidence suggests King Parameshwara Varma of the Pallava dynasty performed a consecration ceremony (Samprokshanam) for the temple, placing its construction around the 8th century AD. 
  2. While the exact construction date remains debated, elements like the main sanctum and the 65-foot Rajagopuram (gateway tower) hint at its Pallava era origins.


Vijayanagara Dynasty (16th-17th Century):



  1. The large pillared hall (Maha mandapam) in front of the main sanctum is attributed to the Vijayanagara kings, dating back to the 16th-17th centuries.
  2. The hall is decorated with sculptures and houses shrines for Garuda and Hanuman.

Dress Code

For Men: Wear traditional Indian clothing such as a dhoti or veshti with a shawl or upper garment. A kurta or a simple shirt is also acceptable.

For Women: Sarees, salwar kameez, or other traditional Indian clothing are preferred. Ensure that the attire covers the shoulders and knees
