Bhaktavatsala Perumal Temple's significance as the 55th Divyadesam among Vaishnava temples highlights its importance in the Vaishnavite tradition. Worshipping Lord Vishnu as Bhaktavatsala Perumal and his consort Lakshmi as Ennai Petra Thayar underscores the temple's devotion to the divine couple. Bhaktavatsala Perumal temple is located in the outskirts of Cheranmahadevi amidst paddy fields on the bank of Thamirabarani River. This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu who is also known as Sri Bakthavatsala Perumal who is found in a standing posture facing east in the Sanctum.

  1. It is believed to have been built during the Chola period, which begins around the late 8th century CE and constructed between 9th Century to the 13th century AD.
  2. The Temple has a five tiered Rajagopuram and was built during the Pallava Regime.
  3. The architecture and inscriptions found in the Bhaktavatsala Perumal Temple bear similarities to other Chola temples, indicating their influence and Early inscriptions found in the temple complex date back to 820-890 CE, during the period of Nripatungavarman and after that Medieval Cholas and vijayanagar kings like Rajendra Chola II (1051–1063 CE), Virarajendra Chola (1063–1070 CE) and Rajaraja Chola II (1146–1173 CE) made significant contributions to the temple's structure.
  4. The Cholas likely played a crucial role in shaping the temple's current form.


Do's and Don'ts

  1. Respect Dress Code: Wear modest and appropriate clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. Traditional Indian attire like sarees, dhotis, or salwar kameez is preferred, but if you're wearing western attire, ensure it's respectful and not revealing.
  2. Follow Temple Etiquette: Maintain silence inside the temple premises, especially in sanctum sanctorum. Switch off or silence your mobile phones to avoid disturbing others.
  3. Wash Hands and Feet: Before entering the temple, wash your hands and feet at designated areas if available. It's a sign of purification before entering the sacred space.
  4. Observe Silence: Maintain a quiet and contemplative demeanour inside the temple. Avoid loud conversations, especially near the sanctum sanctorum, to allow others to concentrate on their prayers.
  5. Seek Permission: Seek permission before touching any idols or sacred objects inside the temple. Respect the sanctity of the religious artefacts and refrain from touching them without permission.
  6. Dispose of Waste Properly: Use designated bins for disposing of any waste or wrappers. Keep the temple premises clean and tidy as a sign of respect for the sacred space.

  4. Do Not Smoke or Chew Gum: Smoking, chewing gum, or consuming any intoxicants inside the temple premises is strictly prohibited. Maintain purity and sanctity within the sacred space.
  5. Do Not Touch Sacred Objects Without Permission: Refrain from touching idols, religious artefacts, or sacred objects inside the temple without proper permission. It's important to respect the sanctity of these items.

  2. For women saree and chudithar.

The temple is 1.5km from the Thiruninravur railway station so Arrive at Thiruninravur railway station and take any auto to reach the temple in 3mins.


BY AIR:

The nearest airport is Chennai International Airport (MAA), which is located approximately 35 kilometres away from the temple if you reach the airport then reach the temple by bus or train in 1 hr.


BY BUS:

The nearest bus stop to the temple is Thiruninravur Koil Bus Stop, which is conveniently located just a few minutes walk from the temple.
